Saint-Pons-de-Thomières
Saint-Pons
finds its origin in a Benedict monastery, founded in 936AD by Raymond Pons. This
village hosts the main “centre dáccueil”of the Parc Naturel Regional du
Haut-Languedoc.
Not far
from Saint Pons the Caves of La Devèze are situated. These were discovered in
1886 when the railways from Bédarieux to Castres were built. In 1932 they partly
opened to the public. The caves are most famous for their beautiful calcite-and
aragonite concretions.

Les
Gorges d' Héric
The river
Héric rises at an altitude of 1000 meters in the Espinousse and, after a drop of
800 meters over 8 kms, falls into the river Orb. The “Gorges” are a steep and
quirky rift, often used as practice area for mountaineers. But it is also an
ideal trip for regular hikers, for who an excellent trail has been laid out.
