Parc Naturel du Haut Languedoc

Camping Domaine Le Peyral is located in the heart of this vast natural park. It is one of the largest natural parks in France. This region stretches from the foothills of the Cévennes to the Montagne Noire, just before the Pyrenees. In the different areas of the park, you will find a wide variety of landscapes. Sometimes you are in the midst of vast, dark forests, other times you find yourself on a rocky summit covered with heather, or among the typical vegetation that is also found in Provence. Canal du Midi

The Canal du Midi is a 250 km long canal stretching from Toulouse to the Mediterranean Sea. It is the oldest canal in Europe (1680) and, together with the Canal de la Garonne, forms a direct water connection between the Mediterranean Sea and the Atlantic Ocean.
The canal is extremely popular with pleasure boaters. In complete tranquility, they explore the most beautiful spots along the water. It is no surprise that the canal is on the UNESCO World Heritage List. The Canal du Midi is described by UNESCO as one of the most remarkable architectural achievements of the modern era.

Fonserannes Locks

This lock complex on the Canal du Midi near Béziers originally consisted of 8 lock chambers. Over a distance of 300 meters, boats are lifted 21.5 meters in height. This historic monument dates back to around 1830 and attracts many visitors every year. You can also book a boat trip along the Canal du Midi or take a Virtual Reality tour to explore the history of the canal.

Gorges d'Héric

The Héric springs from over 1000 meters in altitude in the Espinousse and flows into the Orb River after a descent of 800 meters over 8 km. The "Gorges" are a steep and winding canyon, widely used as a training ground by climbers. For "ordinary" hikers, a well-maintained path has been created, making it an ideal excursion. You can cool off in one of the many coves.

Sidobre

Sidobre is located not far from Castres, in the Tarn. It is a granite massif (10 km x 10 km x 10 km) that, in the shadow of its beech forests, hides a concentration of geological oddities: chaotic and strange rock formations, stacked or randomly scattered as if they had fallen from the sky, or emerging from the water, like in the beautiful Merle Lake. Another remarkable feature is the Peyro Clabado (the locked stone), which, in a very surreal way, remains balanced on a 1 m² block despite weighing 780 tons!

L'Enfant Sauvage

In 1798, hunters discovered a child about 12 years old in the forests of Lacaune: a wild child. No one knows where the child came from or how long they had managed to survive in the forest. It is a story that has always sparked the imagination. A trail has been set through the forest where you can follow the footprints of the "wild child": you will discover the child’s hut and learn to track.

Anyone interested can purchase a small bag* at the tourist office, which contains a few items to make the hike even more enjoyable. Access is free.

Cirque de Mourèze

It’s a bit of a drive (about 70 km), but definitely worth it. Near the village of Mourèze, a unique natural phenomenon can be admired. It’s an eroded area of rugged limestone rocks that seems unreal and magical. You can leisurely walk through it along the marked paths or find your own way.

At the Belvédère of the Parc des Courtinals, there is an orientation table. From there, you have a beautiful view of the cirque and the picturesque village of Mourèze.
